The evaluation process of the Romanian Journal of Economic History complies with international evaluation standards. All manuscripts are subject to an anonymous review process involving, as appropriate, two or more reviewers. The evaluation system complies with the mandatory phases established by the European Science Foundation and presented in the European Peer Review Guide. The following stages are strictly adhered to: the preparatory phase in the editorial office, where the schedule and, where applicable, the theme of the issue to be published are discussed; followed by the processing of articles received by the editorial office and the selection of reviewers according to the topics of the articles, an operation carried out by the editorial board; this is followed by the actual evaluation in the form of a double-blind peer review. The evaluation of the submitted materials is based on a pre-established evaluation form that is applied uniformly to all articles and studies.

The evaluation process includes the following steps:

Manuscripts must be submitted to the editorial office online through the Article Submission Portal (or by clicking here) or via the journal’s email address at contact@rriejournal.ro each year by August 31. When submitting materials to the Romanian Journal of Economic History, authors must familiarize themselves with issues related to publication ethics and copyright, and must complete and submit the Copyright Agreement along with the manuscript.

The Editorial Board verifies that the manuscripts received comply with editorial and scientific standards and that the article fits the profile of the journal. The manuscript is also checked using anti-plagiarism software provided by the DOI provider. If these criteria are not met, the article may be rejected without being sent for evaluation.

The editorial board members will select two reviewers for each submitted material, whose expertise corresponds with the article’s subject matter. These two reviewers must be chosen from scientific or academic institutions distinct from the one in which the journal is published. The assessment is conducted using a double-blind review process, wherein the identities of both the author and the reviewers are obscured from one another. Should a reviewer recognize a conflict of interest or lack the requisite knowledge to assess the paper, they may refuse the request to review. The reviewer retains anonymity from the author(s), and any information or concepts acquired throughout the review process must not be utilized for the reviewer’s personal advantage.

The reviewer must read the article and make use of the assessment form to record observations and recommendations or insert comments directly into the text. The assessment form is a standardized document applicable to all articles and studies, supplied by the journal’s editorial office. It is also accessible online on the journal’s website (click here). The review period shall not surpass 60 days from the date of manuscript reception.

The journal employs warnings that flag possible conflicts of interest throughout the manuscript review process. A conflict of interest may emerge from a potential friendship or personal conflict between the author(s) and the reviewers.

Editors will assess both evaluations of the article. In the event of a substantial divergence between the two reviews, the editorial office will seek the opinion of a third reviewer. Authors will get an email notification regarding the acceptance, required amendments, or rejection of their manuscript. Authors receive the anonymous evaluation form via email, detailing the required modifications for publication.

Authors must implement the specified revisions following the reviewers’ feedback. Neglecting to comply may lead to the manuscript’s rejection by the Editorial Committee. Revised versions must be resubmitted to the editorial board following a timeline provided individually by the editors. The Editorial Committee oversees the quality and selection of papers for publication, although authors retain exclusive responsibility for the content of their articles.

The Editorial Committee will make the final decision on the article’s publication and will inform the author accordingly.

The editorial board is responsible for preparing the journal for publication, organizing the resources, and generating the table of contents.
